The VW Atlas is one of our most exciting new models here at Chapman, but VW isn't content to rest on their laurels. Today, at the New York International Auto Show, the Atlas Tanoak concept pickup stole the show!
The Tanoak takes the successful architecture behind the Atlas and optimizes it for adventure as a tough new pickup truck. In addition to boosted ground clearance and a ruggedized underbody, the Tanoak adds a 64.1-inch cargo bed, centrally-mounted winch, and tow hitch. All of this is built around a powerful 3.6-liter V6 FSI® gasoline engine boasting 276-horsepower, paired with an efficient eight-speed automatic transmission and 4MOTION® all-wheel-drive to handle tougher terrain with ease.
The Tanoak doesn't compromize on style or comfort, either, taking the design cues from the Atlas and refining them into a distinct and powerful new body.Inside, you'll find space to comfortably seat 5 (all with individual seats!) and the latest iteration of the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit and touchscreen infotainment systems. The design team's attention to detail goes down to the accent lighting-- it changes from blue to yellow when you switch modes from City to Off-road.
Unfortunately, the Atlas Tanoak is just a concept at this point-- VW hasn't yet confirmed any plans to put it into production. It's still a great demonstration of what our engineers are capable of, and an exciting peek into what the future may hold in store. Would you buy a Tanoak if it ends up in production?
